Work in Bristol 2023

Bristol Cathedral on canvas

In March I was given the opportunity to create three large, colourful canvases of iconic images in the city of Bristol, England. These works were commissioned by the city centre English language school, EC Bristol. Bristol is home to a number of the designs of the 19th century engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. His Clifton Suspension Bridge and steam ship SS Great Britain are portrayed in these works alongside images of historic buildings, the harbour and balloons of the international balloon fiesta held in August each year.

Inspiration from Home 2022

Dorado ink on paper

Much of my work this year has been inspired by the beauty and fragility of the river I grew up beside in Argentina. My home town, Santa Elena, Entre Ríos, developed on the east bank of the River Paraná. The Paraná stretches from Brazil through Paraguay and Argentina eventually joining the Rió Uruguay as the Plata delta above Buenos Aires. The Paraná region is one of the world’s greatest bird-watching destinations. The variety of habitats including tributaries, deltas, islands, marshes and lagoons lead to the existence of many species of fish. Families living along the banks of the river make an income and are sustained by the fish. The beautiful Golden Dorado is the ‘tiger of the rivers’ – an extraordinary hunter which is also highly prized by anglers. Pacú, related to the piranha but without sharp teeth and more likely to eat plants than flesh, and Surubí, a form of large catfish, also form an important part of the river ecosystem. However, climate change and human activities have affected the river and its wildlife. Last year the river was at its lowest level in living memory.
